Standing for black lives matter this platform is for black African power, it is as simple as that. With all the things going on, creating content seemed to be the least of the worries we face. This post is simply just to update you on what is going on and how we can help, as I am posting more on twitter @ssozinha__ . First of all Rest in Peace to George Floyd and Belly Mujinga and all of the other black people that have been unlawfully and wrongfully killed at the hands of racism, across the world.
On May 25th, an African-American man was murdered by a white police officer named Derek Chauvin in broad daylight in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We are extremely saddened, frustrated and tired of witnessing our black brothers and sisters being targeted and executed because of the colour of their skin. If you would like to help you can do the following:
raise awareness on social media using the #blacklivesmatter hashtag
donate to the bail fund (Minnesota Freedom Fund) at minnesotafreedomfund.org - this is a community based non profit platform that will be used to pay for the bail for low income individuals who cannot afford it, after being arrested by police during the #MinnesotaProtests.
sign the petition change.org/p/mayor-jacob-frey-justice-for-george-floyd
On the 5th April, TFL Railway Worker Belly Mujinga died from Covid-19 after being spat on by a male whose identity has not been shared, on the 21st March. The Metropolitan Police have shared on the 30th May that they have decided to give the man who spat on her NFA (no further action). This is a huge injustice, so if you would like to help with this cause you can do the following:
donate to the gofundme at gofundme.com/f/rip-belly-mujinga
sign this petition at https://www.change.org/p/govia-thameslink-justice-for-belly-mujinga?recruiter=false&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=psf_combo_share_initial&utm_term=psf_combo_share_initial&recruited_by_id=ffad40c0-a0c4-11ea-ac15-4118e05249bd
raise awareness on social media by using the hashtag #JUSTICEFORBELLYMUJINGA
Protests are taking place in London for both causes, if you are attending these protests, please do not forget your masks, hand sanitizer and try your best to keep a distance wherever you can.
Stand with each other. Take care and stay safe.
